I don't know if this was posted before, but I would like your recommendations for some software, preferably freeware, to convert my dvd collection to be usable with a portable media player such as an ipod or psp.
My ipod was a 2G from before the colour screen. well, the hard drive died and needed to be replaced. Luckily my birthday is next week and I'm being treated to a new 80 gig classic, and I would like to take advantage of the video function.

I tend to use DVD2SVCD to do the initial conversion (as I like keeping my movies on a main server share so all systems throughout my home can watch from anywhere) and then if the need arises I use Super or Batman to convert to portable formats for our various devices.
Not to hijack the thread, but are you using a standard PC/non-RAID setup? I ask 'cos of my media server idea. I'm paranoid about non-RAID storage of things.
