Knowing I've got 1 year to figure this stupid OS out, I decided to wipe the spectacular A8R32-MVP Deluxe (Crossfire) system Hell sold me (XP) and go Vista (Ultimate 32-bit). While poking around drivers, I noted an ACPI issue requiring the latest BIOS (January of this year). I also noted the previous BIOS included a FRONT PANEL (Hey Hell, remember me asking about this?? DOH  ) AC97 feature. Lo 'n behold, the front panel audio inputs work.

Lesson learned (I know this for business, but I guess I'm just stupid), KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR BIOS UPDATES. It's not a bad idea to see if they might solve a problem, or it might add an enhancement.

Vista's running fairly smooth, nothing disabled yet (OK, the stupid sidebar...useless junk). You gotta swim in something before you can learn how to deal with it.

AHHH eeeek dont go there Mr monkey vista is SHITSTA

stay away from it !

actually i've got it still on my laptop and was considering going back to XP PRO this weekend

i guess if ya gotta learn it go for it .. but be ready for a world of shit when it comes to gameing

my opinion of VISTA is it SUX donkey balls for gameing

otherwise it's not that bad of an operating system for general shit ..and my install of the DELL "OEM..cough" vista ultimate
has givin me no real lock ups or hassle other then my games ran better under XP

games like HL2 run ok ..anything open gl and new (ALA 2003) SUX with the built in radeon 1270 chip and bad vista drivers

even COD 2 wont run on it .. under XP it ran fine

the other problem i have with vista is it lies .. i just opened disk defragmenter .. it says the disk was last defragged on 5-31- 08 ...next sceduled defrag is set for 6-11-08 ..

how did it defrag the drive when the computer has been off and in my laptop bag for 2 weeks ?
if ya see someone in need of help .. help em so ya can frag em later :) Posted Image

ROFL!

I did notice one flakey item, but I'm betting it's the hardware....Crossfire mode worked great on the desktop, but was like an old TV off-station in WoW. Gah! I'll have to toss Steam on here 'n see what happens.

I forgot to mention...

ASUS A8R32-MVP Deluxe
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+
2G Corsair Memory
OS : 320Gb SATA (compliments of that Seagate FreeAgent USB drive that croaked...320Gb SATA for $70! Yee!)
Games : 2 - Raptor 36Gb drives, RAID 0 array, software (only way to do it...RAID controller wouldn't accept a single JBOD
drive array)
ATI X1900XT Crossfire + X1900 Crossfire 2nd
Vista Ultimate 32-bit

I was thinking of going 64-bit, but I'd read too many horror stories about WoW 'n 64-bit Vista. Come to think of it, I haven't read a single GOOD thing about going 64-bit ANYTHING. Not one damned thing.

Yeah Wid, I gotta learn this thing inside 'n out, as I'll have to support. I already have several individuals I support running Vista, and they know more than me (which is not good, 'cos I'm the Consultant!).

Ya i hated to make the switch but i did now useing vista ult 64 bit! so far no problems with it.
I have a Amd fx 74 3gh quad system with a Ausus L1 mother board 4 gig ram and a 8800gtx 756 video card I play mostly CSS and on XP pro i was getting max fps (300) and now using Vista 64 I'm only getting 150 to 170 fps on max video settings.

Runs CRYSIS very well also!

Now mind you i've had vista home since day one and had nothing but problems with finding drivers but now there seems to be much better support and bugs are few and far between

That's the trick to any piece of software...DON'T be on it the first few months. NO software (except Jedi Knight) was released virtually bug free. Come to think of it, Jedi Knight was the only software I've ever encountered that never needed a patch. Maybe a tweak to individual systems, but not to the software itself. Hm. This is the reason I've waited 'til I absolutely had-to...let everyone else beta test for the vendor, I'll just wait for the happy version :D

hate to burst your bubble ..but my SHITSA laptop just crashed .. totally .. i'm putting XP back on it

also i meant played out of the box .....no ...not shareware..NO ....patch on release day and played well and still does .. no patch .. duke 3d 1.5 is atomic edition ..3drealms sold that as an upgrade .. i have that cd ..was it free later on yes .. so was 1.4 ..that was originally a map pack made by 3d realms and yes sold as an upgrade

as to your pci sound card upgrade patch .. the game was made and sold before PCI sound cards existed

back in those days we all used a creative labs SB 16 ..everyone had one or a soundblaster pro ..ISA card

i still miss my SB 16 card .. it was loud as HELL and sounded great ..then pci cards came out and sounded like half volume of my old SB cards

and yes patches exist for jedi knight

http://www.gamershel...load_4704.shtml

Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight v1.01 Patch

also i will never run SHITSA again here on any of my pc's

it crashed when i tried to change the aero interface to off ?

and load windows classic for my theme .. it locked up the system for an hour

just to downgrade the graphic interface ???

had issiues with antivirus programs .. had issiues with disk defrag ..games ..vista ..just has too many issiues that i think it's a bad choice for an operating system .. MS has blundered ..hell i might go buy a MAC for my next system

naa

i'll stick with what works

XP ..
if ya see someone in need of help .. help em so ya can frag em later :) Posted Image
