Older computer, worked fine yesterday. Turned it on today, long beep then nothing. No post. 2 banks kingston hyperX512 and 2 1GB. Tried each in the first dimm slot and nothing changed. Tried a differnent vid card, and nothing changed.

Reset the CMOS and still nothing.

Any ideas?

Sounds like a memory issue. Either the system does not support the amount or speed of the memory you are trying.

Long continuous beeps: DRAM not installed correctly, bad memory, or incompatible

Also make sure the fans are all working, some boards will make the same beep shutdown if a system fan is not working.

This is the thing. I have not changed anything in this system at all. I turned it off last night with a standard shutdown and powered it up up the same way. No changes in anything what so ever. Just started beeping.

Might be one of the chips is going south.

A little trick to narrow down problems like this...remove EVERYTHING removable (including drives). Add in memory first, single (or in pairs, as needed) 'til you start getting beeps.

Old people kinda make the same sounds when they don't want live anymore as well. Doesn't matter what memory you give them, they'll reject it. And system dumps? That's a nurse's job!
After tugging, in tears, at the goat for what seemed to be forever, he finally got it to abandon his plans to be Alpha Goat of the children's section. The goat, probably now feeling slightly emasculated by a crying ten year old, decided to leave tons (tons.) of cute little pellets all over the floor. He must have been part shotgun, as the spread was amazing.
