So I just installed 64-bit Ubuntu on my laptop *from WinXP* using
Wubi. I downloaded the 64-bit Ubuntu ISO (took about 30 minutes for that) and placed it in the same folder as the Wubi installer, clicked the install button, and about 15 minutes later I was up and running in Ubuntu. No partitioning, no messing with boot loaders, super easy. The Ubuntu file system actually runs in a 15GB file on top of WinXP NTFS which is pretty cool. Booting back into WinXP is a no brainer, and I don't have to set aside a separate linux partition.
Hooked up my wired connection and downloaded updates (mebbe another 15 minutes) and all my hardware works - wireless, ATI x2300 graphics, it's all pretty nice. Best of all, Toribash runs great (the only game I play nowadays
Good stuff for any linux heads or wanna-be linux heads
