yea this is just a step toward going dual or quad core later

i figure at least with that 3.4 and the corsair mem i'll still be able to run the new games

havent had any trouble with my existing rig ..it runs crysis wars ..but the agp vid card is showing it's age

just a waiting game to see more hardware prices fall .. i mean hell that p 4 2 meg cache 3.4 would have cost a fortune a year ago ..and belive me i know the mem did

last year a gig of corsiar set me back 109 and that was the value select stuff

year before a gig was twice what i'm paying for the 2 gig xms stuff !

the motherboard i got at least in the manual says it supports ddr 500 ..and i have the ability now to finally use that HD2600 XT to more of it's potential
it's bottlenecked by my soket 478 3.0 cpu with the one meg cache

and with that cooler and case i should be able to get a decent overclock if i need to

You need a cheap quad core brother. I have a prescott 3.6 in my server I'd be willing to downgrade for you. Just need to replace it with something adequate.

i dont have the cash for a new system

i have sitting around a intel 915 series board .. supports agp 8X and PCIE X16 only 2 gig of ram support and thats locked down to ddr 3200

the other board i have sitting here is an old ECS AMD/ATI board socket 939 and smells smoked ...i dont have 200 bucks for a vid card upgrade that will not play the games i play + if the board is smoked ..gotta buy an new amd cpu

plus i wanna use some of the ram i already have and update other systems i have

i dont want to go to PCIE at all ...my X800XL agp card in the older shit blows away most of the newer agp/PCI-e cards as far as bandwidth and 256 bit support .. unless i spend another 200 for the vid card plus another $150 on a shitty motherboard and PSU

thanks HW and also for the offer of the 3.6 chip ..just cant utilize it in the cheapo board i bought

it'll only support up to a 3.4 ..i figure that'll be good enuff and with that cooler and case /ram i can overclock a bit

on air i should hit 3.6 easy ..maybe even 3.8 to 4.0

for as little as i play anymore why go dual or quad core .. plus i still like the old games and XP ..

motherboard wont support any of my old ass AGP cards that have that rialto chip ...runs a 9800 pro ..and even a geforce 3.a voodoo 5 .. an nvidia TNT , a trident 4 meg agp card ...
and there are no AGP options in the bios .. only PCI-E ..so why put in a slot in the motherboard that runs an agp card as a pci card ?

and state that it works! .....it does not !

themaltake case is nice ..hadda dump the side fan tho due to cpu cooler size but the fans are super quiet and got a great airflow

*EDIT side case fan is installed and working on the outside of case pulling hot air out!

cpu cooler is working well also

running a 3.4 P4 650 prescott at low fan speed at a cool 33C

motherboard temp is under 30 C

CPU temp under load (running farcry for 30 min @1024X768 ) weak i know ...the vid card in here sux ..
but temps are pretty much steady @ around 35 C Under load ..33C IDLE

motherboard /chipset temps do not go above 30 C

not too shabby for about a $650.00 investment

well no pics no battery for camera ...but WOW this sucker is quick ..loads games quick as hell

cod world@war plays nice with every damned thing all the way UP ..getting about 91 FPS in COD 4

over 200 FPS in COD 2 !

Left 4 dead runs sweet and CPU and case temps stay below 45 C ..even under load! boot/ idle temp is 33 C on CPU ..29 C on motherboard!

was kinda worried about the vid card... stepping down from PCI-e 2.0 ..since the motherboard only supports PCI-E 1.0A but it's not a problem at all !

the asus software reads the GPU temp , adjusts the fan speed and has not gone over 50 C yet ..even after playing COD WORLD @WAR all day and beating the game!

plus it's way quieter than the old P4 3.0 478 presshott ..err i mean prescott system

glad i didn't buy a dual core yet ..this 3.4 Pentium 4 650 ROCKS !

and all on a $26.00 motherboard LOL
