Cons: After getting my machine up and running, it ran what seemed a bit slow, but, it ran reliably. I finally found out WHY it was slow. ALL hard drives on the 6 SATA ports, were transferring data at a MAXIMUM of 32 MB/sec. THAT, is SICK. Other Thoughts: I went to Asus' Forums, to see if anybody had any answers to this issue/issues. There were HUNDREDS of posts there concerning the P5Qxxxx boards, ALL having the SAME problems and MORE. MANY hundreds of entries from people having issues with Mice and Keyboards freezing, and having Hard drives slowing WAY down, then coming back up once in a while. ALL of them were stating that "I'm RMAing this *****". As I had to do with mine. THIS, is ridiculous. THIS many people having these issues with the P45 boards, and Asus Leaves them out there to aggravate more people. BIOS releases to date, do NOT EVEN ADDRESS these issues.

I randomly create a build for a new rig every now and then just to check specs/prices, and was shocked to see this. Dug around ASUS' forums, like the poster said, and he's correct. Damned scary if ASUS is getting sloppy.

In June 2006, allegations of Foxconn operating abusive employment practices came to light as reported by Mail that were later denied by Foxconn.[5][6] Apple launched an investigation into such claims.[7] The result was that the claims of mistreatment of employees were judged by the Apple inspection team to be largely unfounded, but the inspection team also discovered that at peak production times some of the employees were working more hours than Apple's acceptable "Code of Conduct" limit of 60 hours, and 25% of the time workers did not get at least one day off each week[1]. These same workers complained there was not enough overtime in off peak periods. The auditing team also found that workers had been punished by being made to stand to attention for long periods[2], whilst the team found that this practice was not widespread, it should also be remembered that all junior employees are subjected to military-style drill[3] at least as part of their initial training. The audit also noted that "some aspects of workplace auditing (such as health and safety) lie beyond our current expertise".

Although admitted it makes workers do an extra 80 hours overtime per month while the local labor law only permits 36 hours[4], Foxconn are now suing the journalists (Wang You and Weng Bao of China Business News). The demand was for $3.77 million originally and have lodged a successful Chinese court ruling to have the journalists' assets frozen. [8] Many think the astronomical demands and the court ruling were absurd.[9] Reporters Without Borders sent a letter to Apple Computer CEO Steve Jobs to implore Foxconn to drop the case [10]. Later Foxconn reduced the demand to a symbolic 1 yuan (12 U.S. cents), withdrew the request to freeze the journalists' personal assets, and initiated legal proceedings to sue their employer China Business News. Many have heralded these turn of events as evidence of mass media and negative publicity forcing the hand of big business; leading them to a more appropriate course of action.[11]

why do ya think i got a FOXCONN intel board for 26 bucks .. and found the real intel board 915 for my nephew for 19.99 ?

and got lucky that worked

they sell off old parts and old outdated shit with bad memory/ide /sata controllers on quite a few .. but a few folks like me get lucky .. but my board will probably fry after 6 months of use

but we keep buying from china .. and company's like these

the p5 Q's comin out now suck ..hence price has dropped ..and there are alot of em available NOW from cheap sites .. why ? maybe they got flooded ..the monsoon season was bad last year over there ..ya think they care if the boards are bad ..hell no .. sell the shit ..

my motherboard looked perfect out of the box .. my nephews looked like it had been in a flood ..there was actually what i would consider ..well washed off dirt on the back of the static bag .. moisture and motherboards do not mix well ..

but it did look repackaged as there was no tape/shrink wrap sealing the entire box ..as i had on mine

and also the harddrive /sata issiue those folks have may be due to improper chipset drivers that may have been supplied with the motherboard

Nope, didn't read through the solutions, only the issues, the consistency of such and the lack of response from ASUS. Real shocker, as the gent I know who works for EA? Used to work for ASUS. Maybe that's why.

FOXCONN builds everything now? Yowza....I knew there were only 3 memory manufacturers in the world, but I didn't realize the big names just re-labeled. Eeek.

FOXCONN, along with DFI, is just crap. Yeah, they have their days/months/maybe a year, but overall, they're crap.

Damn.

Oh, 'n the using old parts to unload parts bins? DFI was guilty of that years ago. I found out when I marked (discretely) a mobo, and had it returned to me, 4 times. Owner ripped DFI a new one.

what floors me it not only do they make Wii boards .. but also the competitions boards ..the Ps3 and the Xbox 360 ..thats gotta be a monopoly ..and a real nice place for any company to be in .. they are the AIG of components!

Yeah, but why are Foxconn boards ranked righ there with PC Chips? I've never had a good experience with Foxconn stuff! Or maybe their own products just heaped together leftovers. That would explain it.

Agreed, though, it's shocking what they produce, and yes, China's greedy leaders would just LOVE to be the industrial center of the world!♠♦

I have a P5Q-Pro, how do I tell if the HDD speed is up to par? It does take forever to boot up, Jakl has one as well and he agrees, it takes forever to boot. I even have a Raptor HDD in it.

Another thing, I've built several systems with Asus boards recently, and I've had 2 of them with bad onboard sound chips, both were Via based sound. The realtek sound chips worked fine, so I guess it is not strictly the manufaturing itself, but maybe the components used?

That's interesting, 'cos I remember a few years back you didn't buy anything VIA, 'cos VIA chips were crap. Guess nothing changes. I've had a lot of success with the nForce chipsets at home and work.
