So, I've been using my Lite-on CD/DVD RW drive for quite some time. It burns DVDs great.
I had just a few files for the wife to take to work with her and was going to make her a CD. Only I couldn't burn a CD. I could burn the same info on a DVD just fine.
I have also found out that it won't "see" CDs anymore. Was going to reinstall a program and poof... it just won't see a CD, of any type.
I put in a DVD and it detects right away.
I have Windows XP Pro SP3.
Any hints? Clues?

See if there's firmware updates for your model.
After tugging, in tears, at the goat for what seemed to be forever, he finally got it to abandon his plans to be Alpha Goat of the children's section. The goat, probably now feeling slightly emasculated by a crying ten year old, decided to leave tons (tons.) of cute little pellets all over the floor. He must have been part shotgun, as the spread was amazing.

I had the same issue with my laptop about a year ago. It was a driver issue. I re-installed the drivers and it worked just fine. I don't know why it stopped working, but it works now.
I know there wasn't an update to the drivers/firmware/whatever you want to call it, because I had downloaded the latest updates (which were about 3 years old) long before I had the issue.

Yeah, laptops actually use drivers (per vendor). Desktops are a whole 'nother animal.
Saw this at home Weap...we ended up replacing the drive...though our issue was reversed. It could read/burn CDs all day, but DVDs were no joy. Most likely 'cos we pleyed DVDs for our little one...wore it out!

Well nothing is El-Cheapo for us right now.
It's not that big of a deal really for me because it's a rarity that I need to burn a CD. If something that small is needed I just dump it onto one of my USB thumb drives and poof. DONE!
BUT, I will try the driver thing, I was going to rebuild my desktop anyway, but was trying to fix it before I went to that extreme.
Thanks for the tips though.
