Having a few issues.

I installed MythBuntu vers 8.04.1 onto a small Pentium 4 2.8Ghz w/HT, 2 Gig of DDR400, Radeon 9500 AGP, Hauppage 150 Win-TV.

One main problem is that I seem to have heating issues. The machine works great for about 30 minutes then seems to have heat issues. If I leave it for much longer it begins to reboot sporadically, but never boots fully to the application.

Besides that the backend works just fine. I can schedule a recording and it records fine. Well, least I think it is fine, I have yet to watch a recorded show.

I wanted to have the machine to be mostly just a backend. Connect through our laptops to record and maybe watch the shows. Only I can't get WinMyth to connect at all. I am using the latest versions of WinMyth and DSMyth. Although just now reading a document that came with it says version of 0.18 of MythTV. I am not sure which version I am on as I did all the updates after installing the version listed above.

In DSMyth it says it connects to the database and have put both IP address's that I see in the other screen, but running WinMyth errors out and won't connect.

Another thing, does it have to be in the same workgroup? I wouldn't think so as long as I have the IP address.

Just so you know, I can't install the latest version of MythBuntu as my video card isn't supported out of the box with that version. So I had to install the 8.04.1 then I did an update. It seems to work so far, well except connecting to it of course.

Any one have any experience with this at all?

If you give a CPU cornbread, will it spin horseshoes into ice cream?

Only if it's warm buttered corn bread, shoes are hush puppies horse shoes and the ice cream being made is caramel swirl. Then Yes... you can.

So.. yea... guess what. I think it's a loose cpu fan connection. Of all the rotten stinking things eh?

I was installing Windows 2K and it shut down on me after install. I grabbed an inside support to move it over a bit and poof.. it started to boot again, let go of it and poof, it shut down again.

Lot of poofing I know BUT, I think I know what the problem is. Weird eh?

funny part about your story weap is i have an old sony with an old 2.8 ghz p4 with only 1.5 gig or pc 2700 ddr ram .. and it runs win 7 perfect

if you have not tried it ..try winblows 7 it's pretty good

i still have the 64 bit dvd version as well as the 32 bit version of the final beta ..if ya wanna try it ..sad part is as of march 2010 it'll shut down every hour with a reminder to upgrade to the full final version (hope i can find a fix for that by then )

pretty sure i have both ISO's saved so if ya want a copy mail me a standard +r blank dvd
for what ever version ya want (64 bit or 32) either way it'll install windows 7 ultimate version ..note to install and run the 64 bit version you'll need a 64 bit cpu installed
if ya see someone in need of help .. help em so ya can frag em later :) Posted Image

To be honest I haven't set the time aside to monkey with it. I think I will tomorrow though. And I have every copy of Windows 7 that you can shake a stick at. LOL
Try looking for the Windows nag removal... WAT removal. So far it's working on the wifes laptop. Only time will tell when they switch over to the shut down command.

Thanks for the link though, if I can't lock down why this one is failing I might just need a new one.

I guess Windows 7 didn't enter my mind to load up. I just know Windows 2000 was my most stable machine I ever had. I have only upgraded to XP for when I bought the Battlefield 2 account, it wouldn't load under W2K. *sigh*

LOL
