How did you put on the "correct plugs"?
If you simply cut and cut then twisted them together .... well I would bet that's causing a power issue of some sort.
Also what kind of combo are we talking here?
one monitor and one PSU
all monitors and one PSU
all monitors and all PSU's

Ok....
A friend of mine works for HP. He got ahold of some HP monitors, without power supplies or SVGA cables. He tested them with the proper HP power supply, and said they all worked.
So, I told everyone here that I had them, for a pretty nice price too. I didn't have a power supply to check them. So, the people here looked at the specs for the LCD screen's power supply and bought like types of units, and had an electician put the proper adapter on it.

and i thank you Ripster for getting them for us
Smoken
they are LCD monitors that had external power suplies. we couldnt find any original HP PS, so we simply got toshiba laptop power suplies of the same 15volt 4 amp specs, and had the right connector mounted
obviously it isnt the power supply because one works fine.

OK, here is what I would try.
Go to the one that is working.
Try all PSU's on it. If all work you know you have good PSU's.
Next try each monitor one by one with the same system that is currently running this one good one. If all are Ok, then you know the screens are OK.
If both of these tests pass, I would then take a good look at what video card is in this box that is running them fine. Could be some sync issue from the vid card maybe? or a specific video card issue of some sort?
BTW, the one monitor that is working fine, Does it have the same VGA cable as the others? and have you tried swapping the VGA cables around?
just some thoughts. Hope you guys get 'em working.
