Since I totally forgot about this board and I know Mockingbird never reads it, I'm going to post here.

Her motherboard is my old motherboard, which many of you will have forgotten is a terrible piece of crap that ruins anything in it, literally. I need a qualifiable gaming system, obviously nothing outstanding, for her, for Christmas. I am hoping to spend less than $50, more around $30-40, if that is even possible.

HELP!

Well, at that price, you're probably looking at an SDR system. If you can reach $65 or so, you can get into an old KT266A board.

What the board builders don't want you to remember is that Athlons don't need more bandwidth than what PC2100 will give you. You'll be giving up the latest features, but KT266A is a solid platform that only surrenders a few percentage points to the latest platforms from Via.

Offhand, Epox and MSI are two builders that make "stripper" boards that you can get pretty cheap that also perform pretty well.

Of course, I don't know if you have the memory for a DDR board...

I am hoping to use the RAM we have now in anything we buy. If that's not possible, then I'm going to have to wait a while. That's a little more than I wanted, so she might get a late Christmas present.

IF my family buys my brother a pc for xmas, and IF that intel deal ever gets it's ass moving, then mine could be yours. That's a lot of if so I'd recommend to keep looking.

Mine was 900 athlon (overclocked at 902 hee hee!) on a gigabyte ga-7zx. If not I'll see what the SAmart will give me for it if nobody round these parts wants.

EDIT: Would she look in this board if she saw you or me's names on it? OH FARTBITCH!

I have 384mb pc133 on mine and it'll go with this board if the if's clear, yknow. This thing takes up to 1.4Ghz if I remember right. My coworker just got his intel deal so hopefully I'll hear something soon.

December 15th sunday at 7p.m., you 2 invited to our christmas party at that chicago restaurant for free delicious meal! Me n mike can each take 1 guest and you's are them.

sweet regina's over china, a newsweek on her knee.
while miles below birds are calling from strangely stunted trees.

maybe she will do a bit of spying, with micro-cameras hidden in her hair.

Still looking. Anyone have a specific suggestion? Something with as little "integrated peripherals" as possible since she has all the peripherals already.

I've heard good things about the Shuttle AK32A. It has sound built in, that's about it. Overall, it's been rated highly as a very soild board. Not a lot of feartures, other than it will accept both DDR and SDRAM, so if you wanted to shift to DDR later, you could. The board runs for about $55. Not quite the price range, I know, but I figure that maybe you could use something with the future in mind.

Other than that, just steal tims computer. He doesnt care

ECS K75SA...supports your old memory, supports newer processor (I'm using the cheapy 1600 ($48 with free shipping from Newegg). I've had a few problems, but they're mostly OS-related. DO NOT BUY THE REFURBs....lotsa problems with 'm.
