I get fuckin stupid msg pop ups on my backup system.Diplomas' and other shit.It hapens anytime, even tho im not surfing.Im pretty sure someone posted a way to get rid of em, anyone remember it?
These are like windows msg pop ups, not web pop ups.

In Services, turn off Messenger.

That should do it.

Another way, if you have a screening router is to block ports 135,137-139 and 445. These are the ports that MS messenger uses.
